EASTER AND PAGANISM
5. April 2012 by Scott A. Singletary.
Should Christians Celebrate Easter?
Some have recently said Easter has Pagan Roots. How should Christians celebrate Easter? I think it’s good to refrain from what takes away from Jesus this week. We should exalt Him! I think we should focus on Jesus, and Passion Week this Easter.
I don’t know about the origin of the name Easter. But the Kingdom of God is real and though invisible it penetrates culture through us. I’m not so concerned about the name Easter. I’m concerned that we Christians must know what we celebrate and why this Easter. We celebrate Passion Week as Christians because Jesus fulfilled Passover. He was the Passover Lamb. He was sacrificed on Passover. But He was resurrected. We celebrate Passover and the empty tomb!
We are called not to be conformed to the world but be transformed by renewing our mind, then we will know His perfect will for us.
So here is what we should celebrate this week Easter name or not: Passion Week. We have the Last Supper, Crucifixion, Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus taking place this week!
Let’s focus on how great the Father’s love is that sent Jesus. The father poured out His anger, which was due us, on Him instead! We were dead and deserved His eternal anger for our sin. But Jesus took it instead! He died. But the Father, by The Spirit, exerted mighty power in raising Jesus from the dead. And now for us whom the Father has called to believe, He counts us as perfect as Jesus. We have the righteousness of Jesus, because of the empty tomb.
What Jesus has done is so good it seems impossible! Staggering! It makes me want to jump up and down! His Grace, Love and Mercy, overflow toward us who believe.
Praise Our Father, Praise the Son, Praise the Spirit everyone!

IS SANTORUM REALLY TOO CONSERVATIVE?
18. February 2012 by Scott A. Singletary.
A recent AP News article painted Rick Santorum’s views as outside Republican mainstream because he’s too conservative. Really? The AP Writer clearly derides Santorum’s views but I applaud the views of this Catholic, who has 7 kids and homeschools them with his wife. The AP Writer attacked Santorum’ views this way:
ABORTION-Santorum advocates a constitutional amendment banning all abortions. Praise God! It seems crazy that he is attacked for standing up for those who can’t defend themselves: The Unborn. God said we are created in His image and therefore Human Life is special, Gen 1:26. God said Don’t Murder, Deut. 5:17. If Santorum’s views are outside “Mainstream Republican,” then The Republicans need to get it right because Santorum’s position is centered on Truth.
GAYS IN MILITARY-Currently Gays may serve and openly flaunt their sexual orientation. This is egregious! God clearly says it’s wrong. He said those who trade the natural sexual role of men and woman are perverted. Romans 1:26-27 The AP Writer said it again that Santorum is outside “Republican Mainstream.” Santorum simply wants to go back to don’t ask, don’t tell. But even if Republicans strongly supported the current policy, which they don’t, that doesn’t make it right. Santorum’s position is way closer to Scripture than the current policy.
WOMEN IN COMBAT-The AP article attacked Santorum because he’s against woman in combat roles. God says at times we may have to go to war as a nation. He never said the women are to do the actual combat. The numerous examples in the Bible are all about men doing the actual combat. Men are called to protect women, not send them into battle. Joshua 6: 9. Santorum’s position is centered on the Truth of the Bible.
I’m a Christian but certainly not Catholic. There are plenty of Theological positions in the Catholic Church I oppose. But Santorum’s positions as you can see are solid because they are Biblical.

NEBUCHADNEZZAR’S AUDACIOUS RESPONSE
29. July 2011 by Scott A. Singletary.
Do you remember the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abed-nego? If so, then do you remember what the king said after Jesus saved them from the fiery furnace? King Nebuchadnezzar’s words are absolutely audacious. But first the story in case you don’t recall.
Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful king of his time. God used him to discipline His wayward people Israel. Nebuchadnezzar sacked Israel and brought back captives to Babylon. Three captives were Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. The king built a huge statue of himself and commanded everyone to worship it. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego refused to bow down. They were brought before the king and he gave them the ultimatum: worship him or be thrown into the fiery furnace. Do you remember their reply? They said, “O Nebuchadnezzer, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us out of your hand, O king. But even if He does not we are not going to worship your gods.”
This is where the story gets real interesting. The three men’s response angered the king mightily. He commanded the furnace be heated seven times normal, that the three be bound and thrown into it. Nebuchadnezzar got his most valiant men to carry out his order; but the fire was so great it even consumed his warriors as they threw the three in. But Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego were not touched at all by the fire. In fact the king saw the three and he saw a fourth figure in the midst of the furnace with them. He exclaimed, “Look I see four men loosed and walking in the midst of the fire without harm, and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods.” That’s powerful!
Then Nebuchadnezzar came near the door of the furnace and said, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, come out you servants of the Most High God.” When they emerged it was evident to everyone that they were not affected by the fire at all. They did not even smell like smoke!
Now here is the most audacious part of the story. Nebuchadnezzar then said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego.” He ordered: if any people, nation or tongue speaks anything offensive against Shadrach Meshach and Abed-nego’s God then they shall be torn limb from limb, and their house reduced to a rubbish heap. Wow!
That’s it, did you get it, the most Audacious thing? King Nebuchadnezzar, a foreign king, a Babylonian, came to understand that the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego was Almighty God, that He is “The Most High God.” Nebuchadnezzar wanted to make sure that no one offended Him! He decreed that if any person or even if a nation spoke anything offensive against the Most High God then they were to suffer death! Wow! So the most influential and powerful king of his time paid the highest honor possible to the God of his Jewish captives! He is Jesus, the God of the Bible! So is that the most Audacious thing you ever heard?
Why don’t we exalt Jesus in America anymore like Nebuchadnezzar did? We have lost our Christian consensus? Does anyone doubt that our founders were followers of Jesus? It’s been said as the church goes so goes the nation. In other words we Christians can’t blame anybody but ourselves because American has turned its back on Jesus. But if we humble ourselves and put Jesus first then He will heal us. He says if my people who are called by My Name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. That’s it, that’s our only hope! How do we humble ourselves? It’s hard isn’t it? I think we must take responsibly for the current situation. We must acknowledge we have forgotten our history: we once honored Jesus alone and our founders were committed followers of Jesus!
What did our founders believe? Listen to three:
“The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.” JOHN ADAMS
“I am a real Christian – that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus Christ. I am a Christian in the only sense in which He wished anyone to be: sincerely attached to His doctrines in preference to all others.” THOMAS JEFFERSON
“As to Jesus of Nazareth, my opinion of whom you particularly desire, I think the system of morals and His religion as He left them to us, the best the world ever saw or is likely to see.” BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
It says don’t be conformed to the world but rather be transformed by renewing our minds! We have been conformed to culture. But we must be renewed in our minds so we think like God wants us to think. Our only hope is to understand how bad we have become, own it, humble ourselves and seek His Face. If God doesn’t send revival to us then we are hopeless! We need a revival of the same proportion as the Great Awakening! Father please send a special move of The Holy Spirit, please revive us in Jesus’ Almighty name, Amen.

About SB529
16. April 2010 by Scott A. Singletary.
What is SB529, the Non Coercion bill? One part of it is easier to understand. It provides penalties for anybody who forces another to have an abortion. There is a second part that is harder for me to understand. It provides penalties for medical doctors who perform abortions if they know the motivation for having the abortion is racial or gender. The explanation given by one who helped write it, Rep Ed Setzler, was that these are protected groups. If you can’t fire someone based on race or sex, you ought not to be able to abort someone based on the same rational. Medical doctors seem to be the most adamant against it. A few made comments about fear of getting sued and they predict a chilling effect where fewer doctors will perform abortions for fear of suit. It is not nearly a ban. But clearly to me it is certainly a step in the right direction. In Romans 13: 3-4 it says the purpose of government is to restrain evil and to protect the innocent. This bill does both and so I think its absolutely worth fighting for!

IF MY PEOPLE RESOLUTION FOR GEORGIA LEGISLATURE
3. February 2010 by Scott A. Singletary.
IF MY PEOPLE RESOLUTION FOR
GOD established us as a people and a nation long ago in this new world. But we have forgotten Him. Some have even tried to remove Him from our laws. Now, we must return to Him. We have a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us and have passionately professed the truth with these facts:
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of
“In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism who should labor to subvert these great pillars [religion and morality]. You do well to wish to learn our arts and way of life, and above all, the religion of Jesus Christ.” George Washington
“The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times.” John Adams
“We are a Christian people…according to one another the equal right of religious freedom and acknowledging with reverence the duty of obedience to the will of God.”
“Now, my countrymen, if you have been taught doctrines conflicting with these great landmarks of the Declaration of Independence [Christian virtues]…let me entreat you to come back.” Abraham Lincoln 1858
WE acknowledge that we have forgotten our God and we have not honored Him. We have turned away from His laws. His Word tells us what to do: “…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7:14
Now, LORD Jesus, please help us make laws that honor you alone and help us fix the ones that don’t honor you.
Amen.

OPEN LETTER TO THE GEORGIA LEGISLATURE
7. December 2009 by Scott A. Singletary.
Dear Georgia Senators and Representatives,
Do you see the condition of our Georgia society? WE are sick and hurting. Abortion, No Fault Divorce, and Sex Trafficking are leaving a trail of dead and broken people and families. WE have taken God out of our schools and our children are not learning to honor Him there. WE have forgotten the God of our fathers.
The societal walls of our state have fallen down. Can you see our condition? Please let us rise up together and rebuild!
God’s Word the Bible has been our blueprint since our beginning. But WE have forgotten Him. Some of our recent laws are in conflict with Him and they must be changed. WE need to go back and change our laws to protect the innocent, keep families together and honor God in our schools again! We absolutely feel extreme urgency and want to see these changes this next session. We need His Justice, Mercy and Righteousness!
WE are all in this together. WE all have been part of the problem. WE are asking God to make us all one in these matters.
How can WE rebuild the walls? WE understand that without God’s help WE can’t. But is anything too hard for our LORD Jesus Christ? Do you remember how long it took Nehemiah and the people with God’s help to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem? Only 52 days!
Please let us rise together and rebuild!
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost!

AN OPEN LETTER TO GOD’S PEOPLE IN GEORGIA
28. November 2009 by Scott A. Singletary.
I believe the spiritual walls of our society are broken down. Do you see the condition that we are in? Abortion, No Fault Divorce, and Sex Trafficking are leaving a trail of dead and broken people and families. We have taken God out of our schools and our children are not learning to honor Him there. Please let us rise up together and rebuild!
I am appealing to God’s people in Georgia. Will we let God soften our hearts about these issues? How can we rebuild the walls? We can’t unless God helps us. But if we follow Him we can. Does anyone remember how long it took Nehemiah and the people with God’s help to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem? Only 52 days!
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost!

WHY DID HASAN DO IT?
16. November 2009 by Scott A. Singletary.
If something looks like a duck, waddles like a duck and quacks like a duck then chances are it’s a duck! Many commentators seem afraid to comment on Nidal Hasan’s motives despite the obvious.
Hasan had said he was Muslim first and American second. He said Muslim terrorists are heroes. He wore traditional Muslim prayer garb the morning of the attack and he met for prayer immediately before the killing. He even shouted the Jihad phrase, “Allah is great,” repeatedly while carrying out his attack.Seems quite clear to me the motive behind his actions was he is a devout Muslim acting out his faith.Islam is a works religion. It teaches the Muslim God Allah weighs a person’s work on a scale: the good on one side and bad on the other. If one’s good works out weight the bad then they make it to heaven. Otherwise they go to hell. But there is one loophole: Jihad. Regardless of the scale if one dies killing infidels then one gets to go it directly to heaven. Men receive 40 virgins. I don’t know what women receive.
It’s apparent to me that Hasan simply was acting on his faith or belief system when he shot and killed so many at Fort Hood. Georg Bush was quite wrong when he said that Islam in a noble and peaceful religion. It’s neither!Does the Bible speak to this issue? I think it does but first the context. We must remember that we were giving a republic based on the general Christianity of the Bible. Our laws tolerated other religions but preferred Christianity. Here is what I mean. In the past suppose a Jewish person petitioned the courts to acknowledge his Sabbath (Saturday). The answer would have been “no.” The courts would have said we acknowledge Sunday as the Christian day of rest. If you chose to rest on Saturday go ahead, we tolerate your doing it but our civilization is based on Christianity. Broad Biblical Christianity not a particular denomination. That is what I mean when I say we have favored Christianity but tolerated others.
So when we see attacks like 9/11 or Fort Hood let’s be honest. Religion matters. It matters which God we are going to honor as a country. Every belief system or every faith is not equally valid. Joshua said it best when he reminded the people to choose this day whom you will serve… but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD! The prophet Elijah said if the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal follow him. Is it OK to prefer broad Christianity in America? Yes. In fact I think me must! I think we must return to our roots or face extreme consequences. The book of Judges gives us a pattern. When the Jews entered the Promised Land, as long as some of the leaders from Joshua’s generation lived the people honored God and He blessed them. However the next generation rose up who neither knew the LORD nor the things He had done for Israel; then they rebelled against Him. So God lifted His protection and let the surrounding nations take Israel out.
I fear that is where we are as a nation right now! God help us be set apart and different!
